Our story
Mother's Hope Initiative was established in 2013 by a group of resilient women who had faced the harsh reality of losing their spouses and struggled to find their footing again. Each of them had experienced the pain and uncertainty of living without a partner and, inspired by their own journey of rebuilding, decided to create a safe space for other women in similar situations.
One of the founders, at the age of 13, faced an unexpected change in her life when she encountered a compassionate family that took her in, providing her with love, care, and a stable environment. This transformative experience ignited a desire in her to extend the same support to others. With encouragement from her new family, she and a friend established a supportive home for women in need. By 2013, with the generous help of the local community and a piece of land provided by her grandmother, they officially founded Abandoned Women to assist widows in rebuilding their lives and finding hope again.
This initiative now serves as a sanctuary for women who have been left alone due to the death of their husbands, offering them not just shelter, but also emotional support and opportunities for skill development. Through this project, these women can regain their strength and dignity, with a chance to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
In the early days, the founders themselves conducted workshops and provided basic training in skills like crafting, literacy, and financial management. Since 2015, Abandoned Women has grown to include several dedicated volunteers and trainers who work tirelessly to support these women every day. The organization now offers a variety of programs, including vocational training and small business support, helping women to generate income and become self-sufficient. The community's solidarity and support have been crucial in creating a nurturing environment where these women can thrive.
About Me
The founder spent nearly 15 months in various African countries during 2018/2019, including 9 months in Kenya, and has continued to visit regularly since then. Early in her journey, she met the founders of the organization while working on another project. She was deeply moved by the dedication and commitment shown to the many women who have found hope and a renewed sense of purpose at Abandoned Women.
Turning a blind eye was never an option. She has experienced profound love and witnessed significant struggles within the community. This is why she chose to support Abandoned Women and hopes to connect with others who share the same passion for empowering women in need. Because she truly believes that:
